"Colorado: the Centennial State"
Cartographer:
Herndon, Gerald
Date of Creation:
1958
This lively map of Colorado, was, according to OCLC, created by local 11th-grader, Gerald Herndon, of North High School, in aid of the Junior Red Cross, in 1958. Given how evident his artistic talent at such a young age is, it is strange not to find any further record of Herndon’s artwork. The original for this map is housed at the Denver Public Library. The broad border surrounding the map is illustrated with vignettes of Colorado life: from gold mining to bronc busting. The map is centered on Denver, and shows all main arterial routes to many historic and recreational sites.
