An important and influential map published just months after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbour and the subsequent entry of the U.S. into World War II. The map shows the possessions of all the combatants within and around the Pacific Ocean, with distances between the major fields of conflict, the border consists of a recurring pattern of three dots and a long dash, Morse code for “V” for Victory.
Widely regarded for his drawings, greeting cards, and 22 maps during his lifetime, Ernest Dudley Chase, according to the book Winchester Artists by Ellen E. Knight, produced more greeting cards than anyone in the United States. He authored the first definitive history of the greeting card business, The Romance of Greeting Cards, which was published in 1926.
